For Rio Ferdinand, Noussair Mazraoui has all the qualities to establish himself as the starting right-back for Manchester United. In his podcast Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former Red Devils defender stated that the Moroccan international should start the season ahead of Diogo Dalot.
“If I were in Michael Carrick’s position, I would start Noussair Mazraoui instead of Diogo Dalot to begin the season, it’s as simple as that,” Rio Ferdinand said. The former England international believes that the Lion of the Atlas returns from the 2026 World Cup in the best form of his career, with renewed confidence and a high competitive rhythm.
Rio Ferdinand also highlighted the technical qualities of the Moroccan. According to him, Mazraoui stands out for his calm under pressure, his ability to operate in tight spaces, and his tactical intelligence—assets that could allow Manchester United to better control matches under Michael Carrick’s management.
While he acknowledges Diogo Dalot’s consistency in recent seasons, Ferdinand believes that competition should take precedence over past achievements. In his view, Noussair Mazraoui’s performances, particularly during the 2026 World Cup, give him the right to start the 2026-2027 season as the first-choice right-back for the Manchester defense.
