Mohamed Ouahbi was present on Thursday evening in the stands of the Johan Cruijff ArenA to observe Abdellah Ouazane during the return leg of the Conference League playoff between Ajax Amsterdam and FC Sion. The Moroccan coach’s trip had been announced the day before by the Dutch media 11Lions.
The Moroccan technician witnessed a particularly convincing performance from the young midfielder. A starter in Ajax’s 5-3 victory, Ouazane provided two assists to Tolu Arokodare, one in stoppage time of the first half and the other in the 51st minute.
The 17-year-old player also found the back of the net in the 29th minute, but his goal was disallowed due to an offside by Steven Berghuis at the start of the play. A potential third assist also slipped away from him after Oliver Edvardsen’s goal was ruled out. Ajax ultimately qualified with a cumulative score of 9-5.
Ouahbi’s presence confirms that the Moroccan’s progress is being closely monitored by the national staff. As his name is being mentioned for upcoming gatherings, Ouazane recently reaffirmed his ambition to join the Atlas Lions: “I have already made my choice. I have played for Morocco since the under-15s, and my goal is to reach the senior team.”
