Omar El Hilali: “Joining the national team would be a tremendous honor.”

At just 21 years old, Omar El Hilali is already establishing himself as a pillar of RCD Espanyol, a club where he has made a significant place for himself in the first team. Despite his young age, the left-back, who was trained at L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, has become a role model for his teammates and an example for the young players at the club. He has recently attracted the attention of many scouts, including FC Barcelona, but the Moroccan international remains focused on his journey at Espanyol.

El Hilali, who has been one of the best players on his team this season, has been candid about the rumors linking him to Barça. “I haven’t received anything, but it’s normal; these things happen in football,” he stated. “For now, my goal is to continue playing here. I would love to spend my career at Espanyol, but football is unpredictable.” The young left-back speaks with astonishing maturity, choosing not to be distracted by external speculation.

El Hilali also discussed the impact of Ramadan on his physical preparation, stressing that the change in schedule does not affect his professional routine. “It’s something deeper than just not eating or drinking. I adapt, I rest when necessary, and I focus on my training.” This discipline allows him to continue shining on the field while respecting his beliefs.

Espanyol has gone through a tough period recently, with matches postponed due to exceptional circumstances, such as against Villarreal. However, this has not affected the team’s spirit. “We were ready to play, but the safety of the supporters and our families must come first,” El Hilali explains. The team seems focused on the objective of staying in La Liga, with a crucial match against Girona that could pull them away from the danger zone.

The player also stands out for his humility and determination. Despite his exceptional performances, he keeps his feet on the ground and doesn’t get carried away by media hype. “I keep my feet on the ground. Three bad matches, and everything can change in football,” he acknowledges. And despite the many clubs interested in his profile, he prefers to focus on the present moment. “I let my agents handle the rumors; my job is to perform on the field.”

A new dream is unfolding for El Hilali: the national team. “I dream of it, of course. But there are two of the best left-backs in the world in my position, so if they want to put me at center-back or winger… that would be a huge honor for me and my family,” he confides, a smile in his voice. A statement full of ambition and respect, reflecting his desire to join the Moroccan national team.
