In the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16, Club Brugge traveled to England to face Aston Villa, trailing by two goals following their 1-3 home defeat in the first leg.

The suspense lasted only a half, as the English club quickly took advantage of a decisive turning point. Marcus Rashford cut into the box and was unfairly stopped by Sabbe (17th minute), who was in the position of last defender, prompting the referee to issue a red card. This decision was logical given the obvious nature of the foul. Despite being down to ten men, Brugge refused to be discouraged and sought to respond, particularly with their future Moroccan international, Chemsdine Talbi, who was involved in several interesting plays.

Even diminished, the Belgians continued to press forward. In the 26th minute, Talbi made a breakthrough down the right flank and, at the end of his run, delivered a precise cross intended for Jutgla in the box. The striker attempted a subtle back-heel for Vanaken, but Aston Villa’s defense intervened just in time to clear the danger.

Brugge maintained the pressure (35th minute) and managed to get closer to the opponent’s goal once again. Talbi took a long-range shot, but it lacked power, and Martinez easily caught the ball.

In the 50th minute, Aston Villa opened the scoring, taking a 1-0 lead. In the 57th minute, Ian Maatsen added a second goal for Aston Villa, further solidifying their advantage. Then, in the 61st minute, Marco Asensio scored his second goal, sealing the victory for the English side and putting the score at 3-0.

Chemsdine Talbi, starting in midfield under Nicky Hayen, gave it his all but was unable to change the course of the match. His coach substituted him after an hour of play (58th minute).

Aston Villa emerged victorious and secured their place in the next round, eliminating Brugge despite the fighting spirit and determination displayed by the Belgians.
