Spanish club Real Sociedad suffered a 3-1 defeat to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico during the 7th and penultimate matchday of the Europa League. Lazio took an early lead with a goal from Mario Gila in the 5th minute. Real Sociedad’s situation worsened after Aihen Muñoz was sent off in the 30th minute, followed by two quick goals from Mattia Zaccagni (32’) and Valentín Castellanos (34’).
Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd, starting as a defender for Real Sociedad, was forced to leave the pitch in the 70th minute due to muscle discomfort. Further medical tests will be conducted in the coming hours to determine the extent of his injury and recovery time.
Currently sitting 18th in the overall competition standings, Real Sociedad will need to secure a win against PAOK in the final group stage match to regain some momentum in European competition and finish this phase on a positive note.
