Real Sociedad secured a valuable 2-1 victory against Espanyol Barcelona this Saturday in the 23rd round of La Liga. This win temporarily lifts the Basque club to 7th place in the standings. Nayef Aguerd, who started the match, played a key role in the encounter.
The fans at the Anoeta Stadium didn’t have to wait long to see the first goal. In the very first minute, Real Sociedad found the net through Becker, immediately putting pressure on Espanyol.
The visitors, however, were not discouraged and responded in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Puado equalized from the penalty spot, bringing the game back to level terms.
As Real Sociedad struggled to regain the lead, Nayef Aguerd played a crucial role in the decisive goal in the 83rd minute. Despite being a central defender, the Moroccan international found himself on the left flank, where he delivered a cross. His ball was picked up by Jon Ander Olasagasti, who quickly passed it to Brais Méndez. The latter remained composed and scored the winning goal.
On the Moroccan side, Omar El Hilali was also in the starting lineup for Real Sociedad, delivering a solid performance. Walid Cheddira came on in the 87th minute but didn’t have enough time to influence the outcome.
With this victory, Real Sociedad climbs temporarily to 7th place in La Liga, strengthening its European ambitions.
