Munir El Haddadi evacuated from Iran: “I am safe in Turkey”

Munir El Haddadi has provided an update after hours of concern regarding his situation in Iran. The Moroccan international forward, who plays for the Iranian club Esteghlal, explained that he was prevented from leaving the country by plane before being evacuated by road.

In a statement released this weekend, the player first wanted to thank those who sent him messages of support. “I want to thank everyone for the messages and the concern regarding my situation in Iran,” he wrote, confirming that the initial plan was to leave the territory by air.

However, not everything went as planned. Munir stated that he was evacuated from the aircraft at the last moment and that the plane was unable to take off: “Yesterday, the intention was to leave the country by plane, but in the end, we were made to get off the plane and we could not depart.” This situation aligns with reports of significant disruptions and travel restrictions amid regional tensions and airspace closures.

Faced with this deadlock, his club implemented an alternative solution. “The club provided me with a car to be able to leave the country by road,” Munir detailed, asserting that he was able to cross the border “without any problems.” The former FC Barcelona player indicated that he is now safe in Turkey and announced that he would be heading to Spain “in the coming hours.”

His statement concludes with another message of gratitude: “Thank you all for the affection.” A relief for his loved ones and supporters, as several football figures present in Iran have faced travel difficulties in recent days.
