Manchester City intends to take its time with Ayyoub Bouaddi. Arriving from Lille this summer at just 18 years old, the Moroccan midfielder is part of a long-term strategy implemented by the English club, which sees him as a player capable of gradually taking on a much more significant role within its squad.
In a report dedicated to Manchester City’s recruitment policy, Sami Mokbel reveals for BBC Sport that the club does not necessarily expect Bouaddi to have a major impact in his first season in England. However, the Citizens believe that the Moroccan international should be able to make a significantly greater contribution over the next two years.
This position does not reflect a lack of confidence in the young Lion of the Atlas. Rather, it illustrates how Manchester City is now planning the renewal of its squad. The club notably uses its data to anticipate several years in advance the development of its players and to identify those likely to become important in the medium term. Bouaddi is specifically cited as one of the examples of this policy.
Signed after establishing himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in Ligue 1 with Lille, Bouaddi also boosted his profile with his performances for Morocco during the 2026 World Cup. Manchester City finalized his arrival for a deal that could reach around 100 million euros, demonstrating the considerable investment made in the Moroccan player.
In Manchester, the goal seems clear: to gradually support Bouaddi rather than immediately impose on him the responsibility of justifying the amount of his transfer. At just 18 years old, the Moroccan still has significant room for growth, and City already seems to consider the upcoming seasons as crucial for his development.
