Ayyoub Bouaddi not only impressed Enzo Maresca in his first start with Manchester City. After the victory on Tuesday against FC Porto (2-0), Erling Haaland was particularly complimentary towards the Moroccan midfielder, who delivered a masterful performance for 75 minutes.
“He had a very good match. In recent weeks, he has been incredible in training,” said the Norwegian striker. Haaland even revealed that he had already shared his enthusiasm with Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the president of Manchester City: “I told him that we have a gem. Honestly, I really think we have a special player on our hands.”
As the scorer of both Manchester goals, Haaland humorously made a small complaint to his young teammate. “He should have passed me the ball in the second half; I was completely alone. I was a bit annoyed, so I will talk to him about it now! But he had a good match, except for that pass,” he said with a smile.
The statistics confirm the impression left by Bouaddi at the Estádio do Dragão: 71 touches, 95% pass accuracy, and all of his tackles won. At just 18 years old, the Moroccan international is receiving strong praise from one of the key figures in the locker room, just hours after also being lauded by his coach.
