After several months disrupted by injury, Eliesse Ben Seghir is finally nearing a return to competition. The Moroccan international is included in the Bayer Leverkusen squad for the match against NK Celje, on Wednesday evening at 21:00, during the first day of the Europa League group stage.
Absent since the start of the season due to a thigh issue, Ben Seghir had gradually resumed training before fully rejoining the team training sessions. On September 10, Bild already reported that the Moroccan was able to train without restrictions again and was getting closer to returning to the squad.
His presence against Celje thus represents an important step in his recovery process. The 21-year-old player, who joined Bayer Leverkusen from AS Monaco in the summer of 2025, has not played an official match since May 16, when he played 28 minutes against Hamburg on the last day of the Bundesliga.
It remains to be seen whether Carles Martínez will grant him his first minutes of the season as early as Wednesday. Bayer will begin their European campaign at the BayArena against the Slovenian champions, a match that could mark the long-awaited return of Ben Seghir to the pitch.
