Couhaib Driouech will not be joining the Rangers after all. Despite an agreement reached with PSV Eindhoven regarding a fee estimated at eight million euros, the Scottish club has decided against signing the Moroccan winger following his medical examination.
The 24-year-old player had agreed with the Rangers on the terms of a four-season contract and had traveled to Scotland to finalize his arrival. Present in the stands at Ibrox on Thursday during the European match against Jagiellonia Białystok, Driouech seemed close to being officially presented. However, the medical examinations reportedly raised concerns about his short-term availability. PSV did not fully share the Scottish club’s assessment, and discussions to adjust the terms of the deal did not come to fruition.
Peter Bosz confirmed the expected return of the Moroccan international to Eindhoven. “This was obviously a surprise. The two clubs had reached an agreement, and I thought everything was settled,” said the PSV coach. The Dutch technician now intends to gradually reintegrate his player: “He is once again part of my squad. We need to win matches together, and I will need him.”
Driouech will first need to regain his full fitness before becoming an option for PSV again. However, his future could see another twist before the transfer window closes. The abandonment of the operation is not related to the Rangers’ European elimination, but to the concerns that arose during the medical visit and the disagreement that followed. The Guardian confirms that the Scottish club withdrew from the deal for medical reasons.
