Chemsdine Talbi played his first official minutes of the 2026-2027 season this Saturday, during Sunderland’s match against Ipswich Town. Starting on the bench, the Moroccan international came on in the 59th minute of a game ultimately lost by the Black Cats (2-1).
Ipswich opened the scoring in the 24th minute through Emersonn, assisted by Julio Enciso. Sunderland responded before halftime with a stunning free kick from Nilson Angulo in the 39th minute.
Régis Le Bris then brought Talbi on for the Ecuadorian scorer while the two teams were still level. The Lion of the Atlas played for just over half an hour but was unable to help Sunderland turn the match around.
As a draw seemed likely, former Sunderland player Jack Clarke secured victory for Ipswich in the 90th minute. After starting against Rennes in the last preseason match, Talbi begins this new Premier League campaign in a substitute role.
