Chemsdine Talbi absent from Sunderland’s European list

Chemsdine Talbi will not participate in the Europa League group stage with Sunderland. The Moroccan international is not included in the 22-player list revealed by the Black Cats for their 2026-2027 European campaign. This is a significant decision as the future of the 21-year-old winger remains uncertain.

Constrained by UEFA rules regarding club-trained and locally trained players, Sunderland was unable to register the usual 25 players. Talbi also cannot be included in List B, which is reserved for young players who meet a two-year club tenure requirement. Having arrived from Club Brugge in July 2025, the Moroccan does not meet this condition. He is thus one of the main absentees from the European selection announced by Sunderland.

This omission takes on particular significance in the current context. Talbi’s playing time has decreased since the start of the season, and the arrival of Malick Fofana has further intensified competition in the attacking sector. The Moroccan notably remained on the bench during the recent victory against Fulham.

Asked about his player’s situation, Régis Le Bris did not rule out a transfer. “A departure remains possible, so it is important to respect both parties. We will see,” said the French coach. He continues to believe in Talbi’s abilities: “I think he can succeed here,” he added, while emphasizing the importance of mutual trust and the player’s choice.

Talbi’s absence from the Europa League thus fuels questions about his future. Al-Ittihad is currently negotiating with Sunderland, while Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe are also monitoring his situation. With the Saudi and Turkish markets still open, a departure remains possible in the coming days, although no agreement has yet been announced.
