Ismaël Saibari participated on Thursday evening in Bayern Munich’s decisive victory against Bodø/Glimt (5-0) at the Allianz Arena during the first day of the Champions League. Starting on the bench, the Moroccan international came on for Jamal Musiala, who returned to the starting lineup and opened the scoring shortly after halftime.
Long held in check despite clear domination, Bayern finally broke through the Norwegian defense in the second half. Musiala unlocked the match in the 47th minute, before Harry Kane doubled the lead. Alphonso Davies also found the back of the net, while Michael Olise scored twice to seal a 5-0 victory for the Bavarians.
Saibari thus benefited from the final minutes of the match to make his Champions League debut this season with his new club. His entry comes as competition intensifies in the attacking sector with Musiala’s return. However, the Moroccan had already shown that he could contribute to Vincent Kompany’s rotation: since the start of the season, he has provided two assists against Stuttgart (5-1) after coming on, as well as another against RB Leipzig.
Arriving from PSV Eindhoven this summer, Saibari is gradually continuing his integration into Bayern. The 25-year-old midfielder, capable of playing in several positions, will now need to seize every opportunity to gain more playing time within a particularly competitive squad. Bayern, for its part, starts its European campaign ideally with a victory that extends its exceptional streak: the Bavarian club has won its opening match in the Champions League for the 23rd consecutive season.
