Despite his new serious injury, Chadi Riad is still fully considered a member of the Crystal Palace squad. In assessing his group ahead of the trip to Fulham, Pierre Sage naturally included the Moroccan international defender among his currently unavailable players.
“All the other players have recovered well, except for our long-term injured, Chadi [Riad] and [Jean-Philippe] Mateta,” the French coach said at a press conference, as reported by BBC Sport.
The duration of Riad’s absence is not new, as the player seriously injured himself on August 22 against Everton, just a few weeks after his return to competition. The significance of Pierre Sage’s remarks lies mainly in the status given to the Moroccan, who is still presented as an integral part of the professional group despite the long recovery that awaits him.
Crystal Palace has not yet revealed the exact nature of his injury or provided a timeline for his recovery. His return is obviously not expected in the immediate future, but his place within the Eagles’ squad does not seem to be in question at all.
