The news is reassuring for Tawfik Bentayeb. Transported to the hospital on Saturday night after a violent head clash during Anderlecht’s victory over Zulte Waregem (3-0), the Moroccan forward underwent several tests that revealed no fractures or concussions. This positive development should allow him to join the Moroccan national team gathering as planned.
The situation had, however, raised concerns. During an aerial duel against Laurent Lemoine, Bentayeb suffered a significant blow to the head. After receiving treatment, the Moroccan initially returned to the field in consultation with the medical staff. He ultimately realized a few minutes later that he was not able to continue and requested to be substituted. Vítor Bruno confirmed after the match that his forward did not feel well enough to continue.
As a precaution, the 23-year-old player was then taken to the hospital for a scan and further examinations. Belgian media reported on Sunday morning the fear of a possible concussion. The results communicated later in the day ultimately ruled out this hypothesis as well as that of a fracture.
This news comes at the best time for Bentayeb, who was recently called up for the first time with the Atlas Lions. While his participation in the upcoming gathering seemed uncertain after his injury exit, the forward should now be able to join the Moroccan squad as planned. He also comes off a particularly notable evening on the sporting front: starting against Zulte Waregem during the 7th round of the Pro League, he opened the scoring in the 40th minute and also contributed to the action of Anderlecht’s second goal.
