With just a few days to go before Morocco’s opening match against Brazil in the 2026 World Cup, the physical condition of several Atlas Lions remains a major concern. Following the draw against Norway (1-1), Mohamed Ouahbi and his staff are closely monitoring the progress of several players, amidst worries, gradual recoveries, and upcoming decisions.

The main piece of bad news concerns Abdessamad Ezzalzouli. Substituted at halftime during the match against Norway, the Moroccan winger is reportedly suffering from a moderate knee ligament sprain. His unavailability is estimated to be between two and four weeks, making his presence for the remainder of the World Cup highly uncertain. The medical staff will continue to assess the evolution of his injury before making a final decision. At this stage, the possibility of the player being ruled out cannot be completely dismissed.

Also affected during the match against Norway, Noussair Mazraoui is another player being monitored by the Moroccan staff. The Manchester United player is experiencing shoulder pain, but initial signs appear to be less alarming than those for Ezzalzouli. Spotted cycling indoors with his teammates, the Atlas Lion has already resumed adapted physical training. This is an encouraging sign, although his participation in the match against Brazil will depend on his progress in the upcoming training sessions.

Nayef Aguerd remains a sensitive case. Retained in Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad despite a long period without competition, the central defender is racing against time to regain sufficient physical fitness. His situation will be crucial in the national coach’s defensive choices.

Regarding Chemsdine Talbi, the news is more encouraging. The Moroccan winger had resumed individual training before departing for the United States, an important step in his recovery process. However, his condition will still need to be monitored ahead of the first World Cup match. With Ezzalzouli likely absent, Talbi may be called upon to play a more significant role with the Atlas Lions, provided he is fully fit.

As the clash against Brazil approaches, Morocco is proceeding with caution. Mohamed Ouahbi will need to find the right balance between sporting ambition and physical management to avoid any unnecessary risks in a competition where every detail can weigh heavily.
