Younes Taha is nearing his first call-up with the Lions of the Atlas. The attacking midfielder from FC Twente is included for the first time in the preliminary list of the Moroccan national team ahead of the upcoming gathering, according to information from De Telegraaf journalist Jeroen Kapteijns.
At 23 years old, the Moroccan is being rewarded for his strong start to the season with Twente. After beginning the season with limited playing time, Taha has gradually established himself in John van den Brom’s starting eleven. He has notably started several matches in recent weeks and has already scored three goals in six appearances this season with the Dutch club.
Loaned to FC Groningen last season, Taha made significant progress there, scoring six goals and providing ten assists in 33 matches. His performances allowed him to return to Twente with an enhanced status. The club has recently renewed its trust in him by extending his contract until 2029, with an additional year as an option.
The player is already familiar with the Moroccan national teams environment, having made eleven appearances with Morocco’s youth teams, but he has yet to be called up to the senior team. His inclusion in this preliminary list thus marks an important first step. The final list will be revealed on Thursday, at which point Taha will know if he can join the Lions of the Atlas for the first time.
