Amir Bouhamdi achieves his first start with PSV

Amir Bouhamdi continues to make rapid progress with PSV Eindhoven. At just 18 years old, the young Moroccan player made his first start with the first team on Sunday during the victory against Sparta Rotterdam (4-1) in the 6th round of the Eredivisie.

Starting from the beginning under Peter Bosz, Bouhamdi occupied the left flank of PSV’s attack. The young Moroccan played for an hour before being substituted for Ruben van Bommel in the 60th minute. While not directly decisive, he delivered a solid performance in an Eindhoven team that dominated the match, boasting 76% possession and 28 attempts throughout the game.

This first start confirms the growing confidence placed in Bouhamdi by the PSV staff. Since the beginning of the season, the 18-year-old winger has gradually been receiving more playing time with the first team. He notably stood out on August 30 against FC Utrecht, providing two assists in just twelve minutes during PSV’s comprehensive victory (6-1).

His progress has recently been rewarded by the Dutch club. On September 2, PSV announced the extension of his contract until 2031. On this occasion, Bouhamdi expressed that he feels the “confidence” of the club while assuring that he wants to continue working to fully exploit his potential. Sporting director Earnest Stewart praised his seriousness, attitude, and ability to remain calm despite the growing attention around him.

Trained at PSV after joining the club from Roda JC in 2017, Bouhamdi now seems to be steadily approaching the first team. This first start against Sparta marks another important milestone for the young Moroccan, who must now continue on this path to earn even more minutes under Peter Bosz.
