Ilias Akhomach had no shortage of suitors during the last summer transfer window. The Moroccan international was the subject of several approaches, but Villarreal and the player quickly expressed a shared desire: to continue their collaboration.
According to information revealed this Saturday by AS, Club Brugge, Espanyol, and Olympique de Marseille were among the teams interested in the 22-year-old winger. However, Akhomach decided from the outset of the transfer window to remain with the Yellow Submarine, a position shared by Villarreal’s sporting management, which counted on him for this season.
The interest from Espanyol had already been mentioned during the summer, as the Catalan club considered the Moroccan to strengthen its attacking line. Ultimately, none of the various approaches led to a departure, with Akhomach prioritizing continuity at Villarreal.
This decision now allows him to continue his development in a particularly competitive attacking sector. Competing notably with Nicolas Pépé, the Lion of the Atlas is gradually gaining importance in the rotation and has already demonstrated in recent weeks his ability to impact Villarreal’s offensive play.
