Soufiane El-Faouzi reflected on his decision to continue his international journey with Morocco. In an interview with Sky Sport DE after Schalke 04’s goalless draw against Elversberg, the 24-year-old midfielder discussed his first experience with the Atlas Lions and a decision made from the heart.
“I was called up in May and I had already gone with Morocco,” the Schalke player recalled. El-Faouzi made his debut during the 5-0 victory against Burundi. This first experience clearly convinced him: “It was a friendly match. Despite that, I really enjoyed it and I had a good connection with the coach.”
Still eligible at that time to represent Germany, as he had only participated in one friendly match with Morocco, El-Faouzi ultimately decided to continue with the Atlas Lions. He describes this choice to Sky Sport as a “decision from the heart.”
The Moroccan midfielder now clearly expresses his ambition to establish himself in the national team. “Morocco’s last two World Cups have been very good. Morocco continues to progress. I really want to be a part of it and I am very excited,” El-Faouzi explained, having been called up again for the upcoming international fixtures of the Atlas Lions.
