The verdict has been delivered for Ayoub El Kaabi. Medical examinations conducted after the match against Volos confirmed a fracture of the left tibia. The Moroccan striker of Olympiakos is set to undergo surgery on Sunday, September 6, performed by Christos Theos, the club’s chief physician.
The Moroccan international was injured in the 43rd minute following a collision with Marios Siabanis, the goalkeeper of Volos. Remaining on the ground, El Kaabi was evacuated on a stretcher before being immediately transported to the hospital. The incident allowed Olympiakos to earn a penalty, converted by Jota Silva, who dedicated his goal to the Moroccan number 9.
No official duration of unavailability has been communicated yet. This will be clarified after the surgery and the initial assessments of his recovery. However, the severity of the injury suggests that the 33-year-old forward could be sidelined for several months.
This injury is a significant blow for Olympiakos, who were held to a draw by Volos (1-1), but also for the Moroccan national team. El Kaabi will now begin a long period of treatment and rehabilitation before he can consider his return to the pitch.
