Getafe: Abdel Abqar refuses his transfer to Venezia

The transfer of Abdel Abqar to Venezia fell through in the final hours of the transfer window. Getafe had reached a complete agreement with the Italian club for a deal close to 5 million euros, including bonuses, but the Moroccan international did not accept the terms that were offered to him.

According to information from Diario AS, the disagreement mainly revolved around the salary. The remuneration offered by Venezia was reportedly lower than what the defender currently earns at Getafe. Abqar therefore chose not to give his approval, which was essential for finalizing the transfer.

Before Venezia’s approach, several other options had been considered. Alavés and Sevilla FC did not pursue the matter, particularly for financial reasons, while Abqar himself had turned down a proposal from Saudi Arabia. The Italian club thus represented the last concrete option before the market closed.

This refusal also disrupted Getafe’s plans. The Madrid club was counting on this departure to secure nearly 5 million euros, reduce their wage bill, and finalize two other arrivals that had already been prepared. Due to the lack of agreement with Abqar, these operations could not be completed, and the Moroccan defender remains within the squad, although he no longer seems to fit into José Bordalás’s plans.
