FC Utrecht officially announced the arrival of Nordin Amrabat on Tuesday, September 1. Free since the end of his contract with Wydad AC, the 39-year-old former Moroccan international is immediately eligible for official matches and will wear the number 39. The duration of his contract has not been specified.
The player had been training with the team led by Anthony Correia for two weeks. This successful period convinced both parties to continue their collaboration. The connection with Utrecht was notably facilitated by Sofyan Amrabat, who went through the club’s youth academy and contacted technical director Jordy Zuidam after discussing his brother’s situation.
“I am proud to be part of FC Utrecht. I have played here several times before, but now to play in front of the Bunnikside with this badge on my chest is really special,” Nordin Amrabat said. “My brother completed all his training here, so we have a very strong bond with the club. The whole family is happy to be able to return to Galgenwaard this weekend. It’s a wonderful cherry on top.”
With 64 caps for the Atlas Lions, Nordin Amrabat returns to the Eredivisie more than fifteen years after his time at PSV Eindhoven. Also a former player of Galatasaray, Málaga, Watford, and AEK Athens, the Moroccan brings his experience and versatility to the Utrecht squad.
