The transfer of Sofyan Amrabat to Ajax is now finalized. The Moroccan international successfully completed his medical examination before signing a two-season contract, lasting until June 2028, with the Amsterdam club.
To facilitate this move, the 30-year-old midfielder mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Fenerbahçe. He thus joins Ajax as a free agent, meaning the club will not have to pay any transfer fee. The official announcement is expected soon, according to journalist Mike Verweij from De Telegraaf.
In Amsterdam, Amrabat will strengthen a position where Ajax has been seeking an experienced defensive midfielder for several weeks. The Atlas Lion is also set to return to the Dutch league, where he previously played for FC Utrecht and Feyenoord early in his career.
After his stints at Fiorentina, Manchester United, Fenerbahçe, and Real Betis, Amrabat is opening a new chapter in his career. One of the key players in Morocco’s historic run during the 2022 World Cup is expected to be presented by Ajax in the coming hours.
