Othmane Maamma is among the options seriously considered by Benfica to strengthen its attacking line. According to Rafa Acevedo Toscano, a journalist at El Chiringuito, the young Moroccan could be chosen to replace Dodi Lukebakio if the Belgian international leaves the Lisbon club before the transfer window closes.
Benfica’s interest in the Watford player is not new. As early as the beginning of June, L’Équipe revealed that the Portuguese leaders had gathered detailed information about his situation. Everton, Crystal Palace, and a top French club were also monitoring the 20-year-old attacking midfielder.
The new element concerns the role envisioned for Maamma in the squad. His arrival would depend directly on Lukebakio’s departure, which Benfica would be willing to transfer permanently. However, Record specifies that no agreement has yet been reached with Besiktas, despite reports of discussions regarding a deal estimated at 20 million euros.
Under contract with Watford until June 2029, Maamma played 25 Championship matches last season, scoring four goals and providing one assist. Named the best player of the U20 World Cup won by Morocco in 2025, the Moroccan has a technical and explosive profile that could meet Benfica’s expectations. For now, however, no official offer has been announced.
