Amir Bouhamdi convinced he can make his mark at PSV

Amir Bouhamdi continues his rise at PSV Eindhoven. On Sunday, the young Moroccan winger contributed to the first team’s victory against FC Groningen (5-1). The following day, he joined Jong PSV to face TOP Oss, securing another win (1-0). At just 18 years old, the player has now made four appearances with the team coached by Peter Bosz.

This alternation between the two teams represents an important step in his development. “It’s wonderful to be able to play with the first team. I’m still young, so it’s also important to play full matches with Jong PSV. Here too, I can measure myself against more experienced players. Being able to combine that with the Eredivisie is really ideal,” he explained to ESPN NL.

Bouhamdi admits he has been surprised by the speed of his progression. He did not expect to remain with the professional group for so long after the summer preparation. “Everything has gone very quickly. I didn’t think I would still be with the first team. It’s very positive that Peter Bosz trusts me. As a young player, I have to keep working hard and listen to the coaches and the players around me.”

The winger now believes he can meet the demands of the highest level in Dutch football. “You gradually get used to it. After all, this is the highest level in the Netherlands. Over the weeks and months, you become a better player. I think I can keep up, and it will go well,” he assured. However, Bouhamdi remains aware of his areas for improvement, particularly in his decision-making: “I still have a lot to improve, like my choices with the ball. But I learn quickly, and my qualities also allow me to compete. I’ve become more technically confident and make fewer unnecessary mistakes. I’ve learned a lot with the first team.”

Within the locker room, Joey Veerman and Mauro Júnior have particularly supported him during his integration. “Joey helped me a lot, even though he has just left. Mauro is doing the same. They show you what needs to be done to reach this level,” the young forward shared.

His coach with Jong PSV, Stijn Schaars, is also very enthusiastic. “He seizes his chance with both hands; it’s in his nature. When a winger already has that desire and work ethic, he quickly becomes appreciated. Not to mention that he also knows how to play football very well,” the coach emphasized.

Schaars also mentioned that he sent a message to his player the day before the match against TOP Oss to check on his mindset. Bouhamdi reportedly replied that he was very motivated and that they needed to “put the pedal to the metal.” This mentality is appreciated by his coach, although he still expects progress in his offensive choices: “He almost always wants to provoke and attempt an action. Sometimes he goes a bit overboard, but this determination is primarily a quality.”
