Morocco approaches its round of 16 match against Canada with confidence, but also with the desire to confirm an already solid journey in this 2026 World Cup. After advancing from the group stage and eliminating the Netherlands in a thrilling scenario, the Atlas Lions face the Canadian team with the ambition to continue their adventure and move closer to another major event.

Placed in a tough group with Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti, Mohamed Ouahbi’s men quickly demonstrated that they were not there to be passive. The draw against Brazil set the tone for a controlled campaign, followed by an important victory against Scotland and a more animated success against Haiti. With seven points on the board, Morocco secured its qualification for the knockout stage, showcasing both solidity, character, and a real ability to rise to the occasion.

The encounter against the Netherlands then marked a turning point in Morocco’s journey. In a tightly contested match that went to the end of extra time, the Atlas Lions managed to stay composed before making the difference in the penalty shootout. Once again, Yassine Bounou was decisive, confirming his status as a goalkeeper for big nights and reminding everyone how much the experience gained by this group can weigh in such encounters.

Against Canada, Morocco will, however, need to be wary of a team buoyed by the support of its fans and a historic momentum. The Canadian team, qualified after its victory against South Africa, plays without complexes and will seek to extend its dream in a competition partially held on home soil. Its intensity, speed in transitions, and collective enthusiasm pose real dangers for the Atlas Lions.

But this Morocco has already proven it knows how to handle pressure. Between the control displayed in the group stage, the mental strength shown against the Netherlands, and the experience of key players accustomed to major events, the Atlas Lions have the necessary arguments to aim for a place in the quarter-finals. On the eve of this match against Canada, the message is clear: Morocco’s journey is already remarkable, but it can still take on another dimension.
