As the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 approaches, set to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, the national women’s team faced South Africa on Tuesday, December 2, as part of their preparation. For the third consecutive time, Morocco will host the continental tournament, which will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 World Cup.
Under the guidance of Jorge Vilda, the Atlas Lionesses took on South Africa at the Grand Stadium of Agadir. Against a nation accustomed to major African competitions, the Moroccans lost 2-0. The South Africans made the difference late in the match with goals from Nonhlanhla Mthandi (70th minute) and Sinoxolo Cesane (86th minute).
This friendly match provides the Moroccan staff with valuable insights as preparations continue. The objective is clear: to be ready for a home-hosted AFCON and to try to secure one of the qualifying spots for the 2027 World Cup.
