Leeds step up pursuit of El Khannouss as others bide their time

Aged 21, El Khannouss is eager to continue his development at the highest level. His profile is of strong interest to Leeds, newly promoted to the Premier League after winning the Championship, and looking to boost their creativity in midfield.

The Whites’ management recently met with the player’s representatives. During this meeting, they expressed their intention to not only pay El Khannouss’ release clause but also cover the solidarity contributions and transfer-related taxes. However, this clause is only valid until August 15, which puts pressure on Leeds to act quickly.

Leeds’ interest, however, isn’t pleasing everyone. Clubs like Arsenal haven’t forgotten about the El Khannouss option. Other European giants are also closely monitoring the Moroccan midfielder. Their strategy is to wait for the right moment to make a move, hoping for a drop in price. In this context, Leeds’ swift approach is disrupting their plans.

The competition is taking shape: Crystal Palace are keeping a close eye on the Atlas Lion as a potential replacement should Eberechi Eze leave the club, while RB Leipzig are also monitoring the situation. However, Leeds are determined to take the lead and finalize the deal before other clubs turn their interest into formal offers.

Already very active in the transfer market with seven signings this summer, the English club continues its ambitious recruitment by targeting El Khannouss. After a friendly against Manchester United, Leeds are now preparing for their final pre-season tests, including a clash with Villarreal on Saturday, followed by a game against AC Milan.
