Zakaria El Ouahdi, right-back for Genk, shared his thoughts on his future and ambitions in an interview with O JOGO. The 22-year-old, who was targeted by Benfica last summer, could once again be in the Eagles’ plans with the upcoming winter transfer window, especially given the expected departure of Issa Kaboré to Galatasaray.

Asked about a possible move to the Lisbon club, the Moroccan made his feelings clear: “Playing for Benfica is a dream. The supporters, the team, it’s a big club. Many players who are now playing for Chelsea or Manchester City came from Benfica. Maybe the door is open.”

Zakaria El Ouahdi, who has played 18 matches this season with Genk, stands out for his fast, attacking style of play. “I’m a very offensive player. I can defend, but I feel most comfortable going forward. I’m fast, and I enjoy short combinations, like the tiki-taka style,” he explained.

In addition to his club ambitions, El Ouahdi remains deeply attached to the Moroccan national team, which he hopes to join soon. “Morocco is in my heart. It’s the best national team in the world for me, and I will always choose it,” he said.

Last summer, Genk rejected an €8 million offer from Benfica for their right-back. However, with the winter transfer window opening in January, a move to Lisbon now seems possible for this promising young talent.
