Youssef En-Nesyri continues to impress for Fenerbahçe. The Moroccan international once again shone by scoring a brace in the 3-1 victory against Kasımpaşa, bringing his total to 15 goals in the Süper Lig and 23 across all competitions this season. His meteoric rise has not gone unnoticed by José Mourinho, who took the time to highlight the progress made by his striker since his arrival in Turkey.
The Portuguese coach spoke about the progress of the former Sevilla FC striker:
“I think his improvement is linked to time. When En-Nesyri arrived here, he had not done a summer pre-season. He wasn’t able to play 90 minutes. Also, he had barely played alongside Edin Džeko. Back then, it was either one or the other on the pitch. Once he regained his rhythm, I decided to pair them up, and his form improved. You criticized him, but I trusted him. Myself and our sporting director were criticized, and the club too, for investing so much money in him. Some even wanted him sold to Saudi Arabia in January. Today, everyone can see what kind of player he is. The team is playing very well, which also helps him. He has scored 15 goals in the league without taking any penalties, and he’s also scoring in European competition and the Turkish Cup. Right now, he’s doing exceptional work.”
Thanks to this rise in form, the Atlas Lion has become a key asset in Fenerbahçe’s quest for the title, with the team continuing to win and staying in the race to claim the Süper Lig.
