Xavi discusses Morocco: “I received an offer”

Xavi Hernández has reignited the Moroccan rumor. In statements reported this Sunday, March 9, by several media outlets and specialized accounts, the former FC Barcelona coach claimed he had indeed been approached by Morocco, while expressing his interest in a future experience at the helm of a national team.

“I received an offer from Morocco,” the Spanish technician reportedly confided, before explaining his vision of national team football. According to these same statements, Xavi believes that this format allows for more time to prepare for challenges, with less daily pressure than in club football.

Furthermore, according to the circulating statements, the former Barça midfielder is not closing any doors for the future: “I would like to coach a national team,” he reportedly said, suggesting that an international challenge might better suit his life balance, particularly in terms of family.

Xavi even went further by mentioning the allure of major international competitions. The reported remarks attribute this clear openness to him: “Why not compete in a World Cup or an Africa Cup?” A statement that quickly sparked discussions around the Moroccan national team.

This media appearance comes in an already tumultuous context. Several Spanish media outlets had indicated in recent days that the Moroccan Federation had indeed approached Xavi, but that no agreement had been reached, particularly due to the tight schedule ahead of the 2026 World Cup and disagreements regarding the composition of his staff.

Even in the absence, at this stage, of an official communication from the FRMF regarding these statements, this declaration attributed to Xavi confirms at least one thing: Morocco has indeed been linked to the former FC Barcelona coach in recent discussions surrounding the bench of the Atlas Lions. And above all, the Spaniard does not seem indifferent to the idea of one day leading a national team.
