According to Catalan journalist Iv\u00e1n Quir\u00f3s, the Dutch team had indeed reached a contractual agreement with the Moroccan international. However, Girona has not concluded any agreement for his transfer.<\/p>\n
The path leading to Amsterdam had seriously progressed in recent days. A trip for Ounahi to the Netherlands had been announced to continue discussions, while a move to Ajax would have allowed him to reunite with M\u00edchel S\u00e1nchez, his former coach at Girona. The Moroccan midfielder and the Dutch club had come to an agreement on the terms of a contract, but negotiations between the two clubs did not succeed.<\/p>\n
Ajax’s withdrawal also comes the day after the official announcement of Sofyan Amrabat’s arrival, who is contracted until June 2028. The Dutch club has thus already strengthened its midfield with another Moroccan international. However, no source establishes a direct link between the two cases.<\/p>\n
This new situation could particularly benefit Panathinaikos. The Greek club is said to have intensified its efforts and is reportedly offering Ounahi a contract that could make him the highest-paid player in the Greek league. The Atlas Lion is well acquainted with the Athenian team, having played 37 matches, scored five goals, and provided seven assists during his loan in the 2024-2025 season.<\/p>\n
PSV Eindhoven is also fully engaged in the race. Previous reports indicated offers close to the \u20ac20 million demanded by Girona, while Ounahi’s release clause is set at \u20ac25 million. Under contract until June 2030, the Moroccan will not leave the Catalan club unless a sufficiently significant offer is accepted.<\/p>\n
At this stage, Panathinaikos and PSV appear to be the two most persistent candidates. Girona, however, continues to await a potentially higher proposal, while Al-Ittihad has also been mentioned among the contenders.
