The African Football Confederation (CAF) announced on Thursday, March 5, 2026, the rescheduling of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Women Cup of Nations 2026 (WAFCON). Initially set to take place from March 17 to April 3, 2026, the competition will now be held from July 25 to August 16, 2026.
In its statement, the organization reminded that Morocco was awarded the hosting rights for the 2026 edition in October 2024. CAF specified that this change in schedule comes after discussions with its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, to “ensure the success” of the event, mentioning unforeseen circumstances without going into detail.
This summer postponement will inevitably impact the preparation of the qualified teams, just months ahead of a highly anticipated tournament. For reference, the draw for the group stage was conducted in January, as part of an edition that will bring together 16 nations.
Finally, CAF assures that preparations are “ongoing” and expresses confidence in the success of WAFCON 2026 in Morocco, now scheduled for July 25 to August 16, 2026.
