The U17 women’s national team saw its journey come to an end this Tuesday in Rabat, following a heavy defeat against North Korea (6-1) in the round of 16 of the U17 Women’s World Cup, held in Morocco until November 8.
The North Koreans, three-time world champions and title holders, asserted their superiority from the start of the match. J. Yu (3rd, 79th), W. Kim (10th), K. Ri (42nd), an own goal by Imène Diyen (43rd), and Jin-A Ri (71st) sealed the fate of the encounter.
However, the Atlas Lionesses managed to reduce the deficit late in the game thanks to Maissane Ferkous (89th), providing a final moment of pride for the fans present at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Stadium.
For the record, the Moroccan team qualified for the round of 16 after finishing third in Group A. The Moroccans had lost to Brazil (0-3) and Italy (1-3), before securing a victory against Costa Rica (3-1).
Despite the elimination, this participation remains historic for the Lionesses, who demonstrated determination, even though the opponent was of a higher caliber.
