    Tensions surrounding Adam Aznou’s departure.

Adam Aznou’s departure from Bayern Munich to Everton did not happen smoothly. According to Sky Sport, the 19-year-old Moroccan left-back had expressed a strong desire to leave the Bavarian club in recent weeks, after being given limited playing time — notably featuring for only eight minutes during the Club World Cup.

Faced with the player’s insistence, Bayern agreed to let him leave. In the official statement, sporting director Max Eberl expressed the club’s regret over his departure, while emphasizing:

Any player who is willing to fully commit on a daily basis will have the opportunity to make it with Bayern’s first team.

A statement that suggests Aznou may no longer have shown the level of determination expected in training. According to Sky Sport journalists Kerry Hau and Torben Hoffmann, several internal sources reported a drop in the player’s attitude during training sessions in Abu Dhabi. His behavior is even said to have disappointed Vincent Kompany and his staff, who are not inclined to tolerate a lack of commitment.

Hau, however, tempers this analysis by mentioning unfulfilled promises made by the club to Aznou. Hoffmann, on the other hand, remains more firm:

alent is not enough. You have to give 100% at every training session. Not 93%, not 80%. Many young players make this mistake.

In the end, both parties seem relieved by this separation. However, Hau feels that Max Eberl’s comments at the time of the announcement were somewhat ungracious:

He probably wouldn’t have spoken that way if the player had been loaned out.

Adam Aznou has signed a four-year contract with Everton, lasting until 2029. Bayern will receive an initial transfer fee estimated at €9 million, which could rise to €12 million with bonuses. A product of FC Barcelona’s academy, Aznou joined Bayern in 2022 with the ambition of breaking through at the highest level. He will now attempt to reach that next step in the Premier League.
