NEC Nijmegen’s coach, Roger Meijer, affirmed that Sami Ouaissa’s stunning goal against Fortuna Sittard last Sunday was not merely a stroke of luck, but the result of hard work, rigorous training, and the young Moroccan player’s talent, combined with his powerful shooting ability.

At just 20 years old, Sami Ouaissa scored a brilliant free-kick after earning it through an individual effort. He was named Man of the Match and received praise from the Dutch media, football experts, and, most notably, his coach, Roger Meijer, who stated: “Sami trains a lot on long-range shots during open play, but not specifically on free-kicks. Even so, his ability to score didn’t surprise me because I know he has talent and a powerful shot.”

For his part, Ouaissa shared that he was fully confident in his ability to score from that distance and angle, which motivated him to ask to take the free-kick. He explained: “As a winger, I feel more comfortable in that position than playing as a number 10. Regarding the free-kick, I knew I had the ability to score, so I asked my teammate to let me take it, and everything went exactly as I had envisioned.”

This spectacular goal, which contributed to NEC Nijmegen’s 4-1 victory over Fortuna Sittard, brought Ouaissa’s season tally to four goals. More importantly, this outstanding performance has further strengthened the confidence of the fans and his coach in his immense potential.
