There was great fear on Wednesday evening at the Vélodrome. Entering the game in the second half against SCO Angers (2-2), Bilal Nadir suddenly collapsed on the pitch, causing significant concern among his teammates and supporters.

The young Marseille midfielder, aged 21, had just replaced Igor Paixão in the 76th minute when the incident occurred. Quickly attended to by the medical staff, Nadir was placed in the recovery position before being evacuated on a stretcher to the applause of the crowd.

At the end of the match, Roberto De Zerbi wanted to provide details on the situation:

“He lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital for tests and checks. We are all concerned, but we hope it’s nothing serious,” said the Marseille coach.

His teammate Matt O’Riley also sought to reassure:

“He is doing well, and that’s the most important thing. It was a shock for everyone at the moment, but his condition is stable. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

Several hours later, Olympique de Marseille issued an official statement to ease concerns. The club clarified that Bilal Nadir did not lose consciousness at the time of the incident and that his vital signs were normal during his treatment. He was transferred to the hospital as a precaution, where he underwent a complete medical examination and remains under observation for further checks.

“His health status is good. The club thanks the medical teams for their responsiveness and the many supporters for their messages of support,” read the statement published on the official OM website.
