The Atlas Lions began their quest for a third African Nations Championship (CHAN) title with a convincing 2-0 victory over Angola in the opening match of Group A. The game was held at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
Driven by an attacking style of play, Tarik Sektioui’s men got off to a strong start with impressive offensive movement. Imad Riahi was particularly threatening, with his shot in the 27th minute denied by a spectacular save from the Angolan goalkeeper. But it was only a matter of time. Three minutes later, Riahi got his revenge, finishing off a through ball from Mohamed Hrimat. His precise strike slipped between goalkeeper Neblú’s legs, giving Morocco the lead (1-0).
In the second half, although Angola tried to get back into the game, it was Morocco that maintained constant pressure. Both teams lacked offensive efficiency despite creating several chances, but Morocco’s persistence eventually paid off. In the 81st minute, following a corner, Angolan defender Joaquim Balanga (Kinito) inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net, sealing the Moroccan victory.
