The new FIFA rankings, released this September, confirm the expected shifts among the world’s top football nations. Spain, led by young star Lamine Yamal, claims the top spot, while Kylian Mbappé’s France returns to second place, pushing Lionel Messi’s Argentina down to third.

Morocco, under the guidance of Hoalid Regragui, continues its ascent, now ranked 11th—a one-place improvement from the previous standings. The Atlas Lions are edging closer to the top 10 worldwide. In excellent form, they are currently on an impressive 14-game winning streak, approaching Spain’s record of 15 consecutive victories.

If Morocco aims to be seeded in Pot 1 for the 2026 World Cup, they will need to play high-level matches starting in October, as the November FIFA rankings will be used to determine the seedings.

The top 15 of the FIFA rankings as of September 18, 2025:

    1. Spain – 1,875.37 points (+1)
    2. France – 1,870.92 points (+1)
    3. Argentina – 1,870.32 points (-2)
    4. England – 1,820.44 points (0)
    5. Portugal – 1,779.55 points (+1)
    6. Brazil – 1,761.6 points (-1)
    7. Netherlands – 1,754.17 points (0)
    8. Belgium – 1,739.54 points (0)
    9. Croatia – 1,714.2 points (+1)
    10. Italy – 1,710.6 points (+1)
    11. Morocco – 1,706.27 points (+1)
    12. Germany – 1,704.27 points (-3)
    13. Colombia – 1,692.1 points (+1)
    14. Mexico – 1,688.38 points (-1)
    15. Uruguay – 1,673.65 points (+1)
