Monaco–PSG: Hakimi, the spark of a Parisian comeback (2-3)

The Paris Saint-Germain secured a valuable victory on Tuesday night against AS Monaco (3-2) in the first leg of the Champions League playoffs, following a dramatic turn of events. Trailing 2-0 early in the match, the Parisians found the resources to reverse the momentum and left Louis-II with an advantage ahead of the return leg in Paris.

On a night when PSG spent much of the time chasing the score, Achraf Hakimi embodied the awakening. The Moroccan full-back was at the heart of the Parisian turnaround, contributing with his forward runs, precision in combinations on the right flank, and most importantly, an equalizing goal that brought both teams level at a crucial moment.

Monaco had struck hard, with a brace from Folarin Balogun and PSG shaken in the opening minutes. Paris also had to cope with the injury exit of Ousmane Dembélé and a missed penalty by Vitinha, all of which could have dampened the evening. However, the dynamic changed with the introduction and impact of Désiré Doué, who was decisive in the comeback and assisted Hakimi’s goal.

In this context, Hakimi played like an accelerator: present high up the pitch, available in the half-spaces, he provided a constant solution in the corridor and exerted pressure on the already weakened Monaco organization, further destabilized after the expulsion of Aleksandr Golovin early in the second half. PSG then capitalized on their dominance to make the difference and secure a victory that is significant both for the scoreline and for the character displayed.

With this 3-2 success, Paris finds itself in a favorable position ahead of the return match, but the narrow margin necessitates remaining vigilant. One thing is certain: Hakimi reminded everyone, on a challenging evening, why his work rate and sharpness can change the trajectory of a European match.
