Mohamed Ouahbi reveals his preliminary list ahead of the Final announcement

With just a few weeks to go before the kickoff of the 2026 World Cup, Mohamed Ouahbi continues the preparation of the Atlas Lions with an expanded group called for a training camp at the Mohammed VI Football Complex. This preliminary list is intended to allow the national coach to observe several profiles before making a final decision on the players who will represent Morocco at the World Cup.

According to information shared about this gathering, the training camp will take place from May 22 to 26, including a closed-door friendly match against Burundi. The objective is clear: to gain time in preparation, test some players still in contention, and refine the final choices before the announcement of the final list. This list is expected on May 26, although several players absent from this pre-camp could also be selected for the World Cup.

Among the names on this preliminary list are several young profiles closely monitored by the national staff. Ayyoub Bouaddi, who recently chose to represent Morocco, is among the players called up for this gathering. Sofiane Boufal, Tawfik Bentayeb, Othmane Maamma, Imran Louza, Yassine Gessime, Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal, Samir El Mourabet, and Yassir Zabiri are also included in this preparation camp.

The staff has also called upon young goalkeepers, notably Yanis Benchaouch and Ibrahim Gomis, from AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille, respectively. This inclusion confirms Mohamed Ouahbi’s intention to broaden his observation while maintaining flexibility before the publication of the final list.

This preliminary list does not yet constitute the definitive group for Morocco for the 2026 World Cup. It represents rather a final evaluation stage for Mohamed Ouahbi, who will soon need to narrow down his group and make important decisions in certain positions. Morocco will compete in Group C of the World Cup, alongside Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti.
