Athletic Club got their LaLiga season off to a perfect start, defeating Sevilla FC 3-2 this Sunday at San Mamés. The Leones put on a spectacular show for their fans in a match full of twists and turns.
Nico Williams opened the scoring for the home side in the 36th minute from a penalty, before Moroccan international Maroan Sannadi doubled the lead just before halftime (43’), scoring his first goal of the season. Starting the match, Sannadi was substituted in the 67th minute after a solid performance.
Before his exit, Sevilla reduced the deficit through Dodi Lukébakio (60’), and then Lucien Agoumé temporarily equalized for the visitors in the 72nd minute. Finally, Robert Navarro secured the win for the Basques by scoring the decisive goal in the 81st minute.
With this opening win, Athletic Club is already settling into the rhythm for the new LaLiga season, hinting at strong performances at home.
