The name of Andrés Iniesta continues to make headlines regarding the Moroccan national team, but no official announcement has yet confirmed his arrival at the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. For several weeks, various media outlets have reported a concrete rapprochement between the two parties, as part of a structuring project led by the FRMF in anticipation of upcoming major international events.
According to information circulated in recent weeks, the former playmaker of FC Barcelona is not intended for a player role nor for a traditional head coach position. The project envisioned around him would focus more on technical direction, with a mission aimed at training, playing identity, and harmonizing the work among the different Moroccan national teams.
Iniesta’s presence in Rabat during the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations had further fueled speculation about his future involvement in the Moroccan project. This visit, far from being trivial, was interpreted as a strong signal of mutual interest between the Spanish legend and the Moroccan federation, in a context where Morocco seeks to consolidate its technical structure ahead of the 2026 World Cup and in view of 2030.
However, on Friday, March 6, 2026, the file experienced a new twist. According to EFE, Andrés Iniesta has not yet reached an agreement with the FRMF to join the coaching staff of the Moroccan national team. The Spanish agency even specifies that a statement had been considered before the final agreement was ultimately postponed, confirming that discussions are indeed ongoing, but have not yet led to an official announcement.
As it stands, caution is warranted. Morocco is indeed interested in the profile of Andrés Iniesta, and the idea of associating him with its technical project remains very serious. But as long as no statement from the FRMF or any official comment from the former Spanish international is published, the file should still be regarded as advanced, credible, but not concluded.
