Despite the defeat (0-2) against Benfica in the Champions League, Fred Grim mainly focuses on the performance of Rayane Bounida, one of the highlights of the evening. The Dutch coach believes that the 19-year-old midfielder once again distinguished himself in a challenging European context.
“It was a real Champions League match,” explains Grim. “We received support from the fans, and the team continued to play despite the tough blows.”
Although the opening goal quickly went in favor of the Portuguese, Grim claims to have remained attentive to his players’ reactions: “We had chances to come back, but we ended up conceding the second.”
Bounida, a Strong Point of the Match
The coach did not hesitate to praise the young player of Moroccan descent:
“Bounida showed very good things and posed a threat. He left his mark on the match.”
Bounida has indeed been delivering convincing performances in recent weeks, to the point of becoming a serious option for the starting eleven. His ability to create danger, push forward, and take on responsibilities in major matches reinforces Ajax’s decision to trust him.
