Genesio cautious about Hamza Igamane’s injury: “A decision will be made for the AFCON”

Bruno Genesio was particularly measured when discussing the premature exit of Hamza Igamane during LOSC’s victory against Olympique de Marseille. The Moroccan forward, who suffered an adductor injury within the first quarter of an hour, had to leave his teammates, raising significant concern just days before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations that Morocco is set to host.

“Hamza Igamane left the match early against Marseille; he felt pain in his adductor. As for the duration of his unavailability, I cannot provide more information,” the Lille coach explained at a press conference. This statement only heightened the questions surrounding the condition of the young Moroccan international, who is essential for both LOSC and the Atlas Lions.

However, Genesio assured that no decision would be made in haste: “A decision will be made for the AFCON, in complete harmony with both staffs, that of Morocco and ours. It’s difficult to provide timelines.” Morocco is therefore holding its breath, awaiting further examinations that will determine whether Igamane will be able to represent the national colors during the continental competition on home soil.
