Real Betis secured a valuable victory (2-0) against Olympique Lyonnais this Thursday at La Cartuja during the 4th matchday of the Europa League. Two goals from Ez Abde and Antony in the first half were enough to grant the Andalusians a solid success, bringing them closer to the European top 8.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men perfectly controlled the match, solid defensively and effective at key moments. After a balanced start, Betis raised the tempo and found the breakthrough thanks to an inspired Abde, who delivered a top-level performance, confirming his return to form.
In the press conference, the Chilean coach did not hide his satisfaction:
“Both Abde and Antony are going through an important moment. We let them play a bit more freely; they are inspired and have a sense of goal. They bring us football, power, and I am especially happy with the collective spirit that the team exudes.”
This victory reinforces Betis’s momentum, remaining unbeaten at home in the group stage. Pellegrini also emphasized the importance of continuing this run ahead of the next match against Utrecht, crucial for securing qualification:
“The match against Lyon was difficult but essential. If we beat Utrecht, we will have practically secured our place for the next stage.”
