Fenerbahçe secured an important victory in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16, winning 3-0 against Anderlecht. The match saw the participation of Sofiane Amrabat and Youssef En-Nesyri, with the latter playing a decisive role in his team’s success by scoring his fifth goal in the Europa League.
Youssef En-Nesyri continued his excellent form under José Mourinho, contributing to Fenerbahçe’s victory with a header in the 57th minute. He now has 5 goals in the Europa League and 21 goals in all competitions this season with the Turkish club.
The return leg will take place in Brussels, the Belgian capital, on February 20. The task looks difficult for Anderlecht, who will need to overcome a three-goal deficit after this heavy away loss, although José Mourinho has expressed concerns about a potential surprise.
After the match, the Portuguese coach discussed his team’s chances, stating: “My experience tells me that nothing is decided yet. Despite the 3-0 scoreline, anything is possible in football. This result doesn’t make me believe we are qualified, but I am satisfied with the team’s performance. We played solidly today. The players understand perfectly what we want to achieve. Amrabat was exceptional as a central defender… Sofiane is a very intelligent player, capable of quickly adapting to position changes.” Mourinho also praised the young Yusuf Akçiçek, as well as Youssef En-Nesyri and the rest of his team, who met his expectations with unity and a perfect understanding of their roles on the pitch.
