Crystal Palace, Sunderland, Al-Ahli: The Battle for El Khannouss

The name of Bilal El Khannouss continues to fuel summer transfer rumors. At 21 years old, the Moroccan attacking midfielder is attracting strong interest both in England and across Europe, and could be set for a major step up in the coming weeks. The latest club to show interest is Crystal Palace, who see him as a potential successor to Eberechi Eze, reportedly on Arsenal’s radar.

Under contract with Leicester City, who were relegated to the Championship, El Khannouss stood out as one of the few bright spots in an otherwise bleak season for the Foxes. His football intelligence, vision, and technical mastery allowed him to shine despite the challenging context, attracting the attention of several ambitious clubs.

Sunderland, interested for a long time, is reportedly in talks with Leicester to try to lower the amount of his release clause, estimated at £22.5 million, with an additional 10% bonus on any future resale. West Ham, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Everton, AS Monaco, and RB Leipzig — who see him as a possible successor to Xavi Simons — are also closely monitoring the situation.

According to our information, Al-Ahli (Saudi Arabia), looking to strengthen their midfield, has also marked the name of the Moroccan international. The Saudi club has included him on a shortlist of six potential signings targeted this summer.

To date, no concrete offer has yet been submitted to Leicester, but the competition is expected to be particularly fierce.

On their side, Sunderland’s sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, recently confirmed the club’s intention to strengthen the squad before the end of the transfer window:

We still have several positions to fill. We are looking for the right profiles, without rushing, but with the ambition to start the season with a complete squad.

For Bilal El Khannouss, the challenge now is to join a project capable of helping him develop his game. After a transitional season at Leicester, the Atlas Lion appears ready to take the next step in his career.
